Hunterdon County Freeholder Board Director Shaun C. Van Doren today signed a declaration of a state of emergency in the County to protect the health and welfare of County residents during the national public health emergency and announced the suspension of some County activities. Hunterdon County’s government remains operational; however, additional and more aggressive steps are required to combat the spread of Coronavirus/COVID-19. The decision to take these actions is not taken lightly but is absolutely necessary to ensure the ongoing continuity of county government operations.

In order to comply with the Presidential Directive regarding mitigating the affects of the COVID-19 virus the County will continue with present reduced operations until April 30th or advised otherwise.

APRIL 2, 2020 UNTIL FURTHER NOTICE: HUNTERDON COUNTY CLERK’S OFFICES CLOSED TO THE PUBLIC

Due to the rapidly changing COVID-19 situation, effective Thursday, April 2, 2020 the Hunterdon County Clerk’s Office will be closed to the public, with limited exceptions. Essential County Clerk employees will report to work and will be available by phone and email. Our core work hours will be Monday-Friday, 8am-3:00pm. Our phones will be answered by staff.

For the County Clerk’s Election Office:

  • All walk-in services are temporarily suspended.   COUNTY LIBRARY - All Branches.

The Hunterdon County Library System will remain closed to the public until at lease May 4th. Due to museum closures, lending of Museum Passes has been suspended until further notice. Late fines will not be charged for any materials.

In the meantime, the library is continuing to serve the residents of our county by phone and email during normal business hours, 908-788-1434 or reference@hclibrary.us.

We are also providing numerous online resources including remote programming on the Hunterdon County Library website as well as on Facebook, Instagram and YouTube.

  • The book drops at all locations are locked.

The Hunterdon County Board of Elections will no longer be keeping our lobby open for dropping off paperwork for processing.  All forms should be sent through USPS for mail delivery.

04/02/2020: Residential Bulk Drop Off On Saturdays In Hunterdon County Is Cancelled Until At Least May (download press release)

Hunterdon County’s Division of Solid Waste has announced that the Saturday residential bulk waste drop off at the County Transfer Station on Petticoat Lane in Clinton Township, is presently closed until at least May, due to the Governor’s COVID-19 Executive Orders.

Residential recycling may still be dropped off at the Recycling area at the Transfer Station, between the hours of 7:00 AM – 4:30 PM, Monday – Friday. Residents are directed to observe social distancing when delivering recycling materials.

  Senior Center

Public access to the Hunterdon County Senior Center is temporarily suspended through May 4, 2020, at which point the situation will be re-evaluated. All Senior activities, including congregate meals, are suspended.

The Meals on Wheels program will continue with a meal drop off program designed to eliminate personal interaction between participants and volunteers.

Social Services Division

County residents who wish to apply for SNAP food assistance, or cash assistance under the Work First New Jersey program can do so online at NJHelps.org.

During this public health crisis, Social Services can conduct interviews by phone. Applicants do not need to come into the office to apply.

Residents are encouraged to call Social Services at 908-788-1300 if they have an emergency housing need.

Shuffle Routes (14, 15, 16, 17, 18, 19 ) still running normal schedule, limit of 5 passengers at a time for social distancing. Route 23: No 6:30 am run to RVCC as the college is closed.

Dialysis – Fully operational. Drivers are not allowed to enter dialysis, only to outside their door

No tickets, no receipts, no change, no bills for fares being accepted. No exchanges between passenger and driver to decrease potential risk between passengers and drivers.

One-Stop Career Center/Greater Raritan One-Stop Career Training Service Centers WEBSITE

Because of the Coronavirus situation, the Greater Raritan One-Stop Career Training Service Centers at 6 Gauntt Place in Flemington and 27 Warren St. in Somerville are closed to in-person visits. Staff will continue to assist customers over the phone and via email. Customers are asked to call 908-541-5780 or email onestop@co.somerset.nj.us for assistance.

In addition, the Greater Raritan One-Stop Career Center at 75 Veterans Memorial Drive in Somerville closed to the public at 11 a.m. Wednesday, March 18.

Customers who need to file new Unemployment Insurance claims are asked to apply online at: https://myunemployment.nj.gov.

Customers unable to access the Internet should call the following numbers: North Jersey, 201-601-4100; Central Jersey, 732-761-2020; Southern Jersey: 856-507-2340.

The state Department of Labor is taking steps to transition other services, including Temporary Disability Insurance, Family Leave Insurance and Workers Compensation, to online and telephone platforms.

  SURROGATE'S COURT: Hunterdon County Justice Center, 65 Park Avenue, Flemington

OFFICE CLOSURE DUE TO COVID-19, Updated 04/02/2020

Effective March 18, 2020 the Hunterdon County Surrogate Court will be closed to the public. Staff will be onsite between 9:00 and 4:00 each weekday.

Surrogate Hoffman has made this decision to protect her employees and the employees in the Hunterdon County Justice Center.

Persons needing to use the Surrogate Court may contact the court as follows:
